DRC-01B: GSTR-1 vs GSTR-3B difference
A DRC-01B appears when the tax you reported on sales in GSTR-1 is higher than the tax you paid in GSTR-3B. It is automatic, it comes with a short deadline, and ignoring it can stop you from filing your next GSTR-1.

- Time to reply
- A short window (about 7 days). Read the date on your intimation
- Your reply

- If you ignore it
- Your GSTR-1 for later periods can be blocked, and recovery can follow
What a DRC-01B is
GSTR-1 shows the tax on the sales you reported. GSTR-3B is where you pay tax. If the tax payable shown in GSTR-1 is higher than the tax you paid in GSTR-3B by more than the margin fixed in the rule, the portal sends you a DRC-01B after you file GSTR-3B.
It is a system-generated intimation, not an order. But the time to respond is short.
Why the difference arises
- Invoices were reported in GSTR-1 for a month but the tax was paid in a later GSTR-3B.
- Amendments or credit notes were reported in one return and not carried to the other.
- Supplies reported in GSTR-1 that you believe were not taxable, or were taxed elsewhere.
- A genuine short payment in GSTR-3B.
Step by step: how to reply
- Open the intimation and note the period and the amount of difference it shows.
- Compare the outward supplies in your GSTR-3B for the period with the tax summary in your GSTR-1.
- Find the invoices that explain the gap, and see whether the tax on them was paid in another period.
- If tax was genuinely short-paid, pay the difference with interest through DRC-03 and report the payment in Part B.
- If the difference has a valid reason, explain it in Part B with the supporting working.
- Do it within the window and save the acknowledgement.
What happens after
If you pay or explain, the matter is recorded as handled. If you do not respond in time, the portal can stop you from filing GSTR-1 for the following periods until you do, and the department can recover the amount under Section 79. Because a blocked GSTR-1 also delays your customers' credit, deal with it promptly.
Common mistakes
- Waiting past the short deadline.
- Paying the difference without interest.
- Explaining in words without a reconciliation.
- Forgetting to report the payment in Part B.
