These are the standard statutory dates. The government sometimes extends a date by notification, and a date that falls on a Sunday or holiday is not moved forward. Confirm on the CBIC or GST portal notifications before the deadline. This is general information, not tax advice.
What GSTR-1 is for
GSTR-1 lists the invoices, credit notes and debit notes for the sales you made. This is also the data your customers see in their GSTR-2B, so a late GSTR-1 can delay the input tax credit your business customers are entitled to.
Monthly or quarterly
- Monthly filers file GSTR-1 for each month by the 11th of the following month.
- Taxpayers on the QRMP scheme file GSTR-1 once a quarter, by the 13th of the month after the quarter ends.
- QRMP taxpayers can also upload business-to-business invoices for the first two months of a quarter through the Invoice Furnishing Facility (IFF) by the 13th, so their customers get credit earlier. It is optional.
- The quarterly scheme is open only up to ₹5 crore of turnover in the previous year.
If you miss the date
A late fee applies for every day of delay: ₹50 a day for a return with sales (₹25 CGST and ₹25 SGST), or ₹20 a day for a nil return, up to a maximum that depends on your turnover. Your customers may also lose or delay their credit, which tends to bring phone calls.

Common questions
What is the GSTR-1 due date?+
For monthly filers it is the 11th of the next month. For quarterly (QRMP) filers it is the 13th of the month after the quarter.
Is the GSTR-1 due date moved if it falls on a Sunday?+
No. A due date on a Sunday or holiday is not automatically moved forward, so file before it unless the government has notified an extension.
Can I file GSTR-1 late?+
Yes, but a late fee applies for each day of delay, and your customers' credit may be delayed. Use the late fee calculator to see the cost.
Who can choose quarterly filing?+
Taxpayers with turnover up to ₹5 crore in the previous financial year can opt for the QRMP scheme. Above ₹5 crore, monthly filing is compulsory.
