What GSTR-3B is for

GSTR-3B summarises the tax you owe on your sales and the input tax credit you claim, and the net tax is paid in cash with it. The credit you claim should match what your GSTR-2B shows, because mismatches are the most common reason for GST notices.

Monthly, or quarterly with a state-based date

  • Monthly filers file by the 20th of the following month.
  • QRMP filers file once a quarter. The date is the 22nd for Category X states and the 24th for Category Y states, in the month after the quarter.
  • In the first two months of a quarter, QRMP taxpayers still pay tax each month using Form PMT-06, by the 25th of the next month.

If you miss the date

A late fee applies for every day of delay (₹50 a day, or ₹20 for a nil return, up to a cap based on turnover), and interest at 18% a year is charged on tax paid late. File a nil GSTR-3B on time even when there is nothing to pay, or the late fee still applies.
